Eating Habits
The bulk of the diet of the Kalopsian vampire comes from blood and uncooked flesh. Over time vampires are able to mix other food into their diet, so long as this food is consumed at the same time as blood / flesh, but the rate at which they are able to do this / the ratios their body is able to digest varies from vampire to vampire and ingesting too much food not comprised of what should make up their main diet causes allergic reactions, food poisoning and a general weakening of vampires who make it a habit.

While they can sustain themselves purely on blood the practice has social implications, as different qualities of blood produce different drug-or-alcohol like effects on vampires, it being generally agreed that human blood produces more drug like effects wherein drinking blood from animals typically produced for slaughter is much like ingesting different qualities of alcohol. Vampires that drink too much of one type of blood become addicted, something that Vampires have to be particularly aware of in situations where they drink from the same person multiple times over a short timeframe.

Common food allergies are still common in vampires, in addition to (while not universal) garlic.

Social Hierarchy
Elite vampires are known to have a mind for business, and project an image of keeping their species to themselves while profiting from rumors that Vampires of these type are brutally refined for capitalist success. These vampires are knows for subsisting mostly on sushi and often absurdly cultivated and augmented blood. These are the only vampires tolerated in our rival town, Pinecliff, and then only for business related things - otherwise smart vampires know to avoid the place like the plague.

While the terms "zombies" or "ghouls" being used to refer to a Kalopsian vampire are usually considered insults some Kalopsian vampires prefer these terms; these individuals are often considered classless by their counterparts and are usually blatantly generalized as violent brutes, whether or not the case may be true. Killing is generally considered classless by most vampires, but some who cling to these titles are rumored to make sport of it.

Most vampires fall between these two extremes, however.

Prolonged or direct exposure to the sun causes aging in vampires, the high-class of which are said to be known for a particular vanity. Those who can live nocturnally, but it's not uncommon to see a vampire moving through town laden down in big hats / jackets / and parasols; despite it's impractically for desert living for a brief period of time in the late nineties this look was fashionable in Kalopsia, vampire or not.

Shape Shifting
Most vampires can turn into another creature at will, though some older vampires have the ability to turn into more than one creature, no vampire on record has been able to take on a separate humanoid shape. Without known exception all shifted vampire creatures are grayscale (white, grey, black or some shade in-between / some combination of). The most commonly taken forms are wolves, bats, and creatures that are generally considered pests.

While in shifted forms sunlight doesn't physically effect them, but it does rapidly drain their energy an long-term exposure will render them unconscious until nightfall.

Vampire Procreation
Anything with blood can become a vampire. If you remain living after a time wherein a vampire drinks your blood and you, in turn, drink theirs you will begin the process of becoming a vampire. During this process your body dies but goes on living - it's not pretty, and nearly half of all beings put through it do not make it through. The transition of becoming a vampires makes many of the people who undergo it more beautiful.

If the vampire who made you is harmed you can sense it (the sensitivity of this depends on how close the two of you are) and if the harm is substantial you can sense the location of that vampire. If the vampire who made you dies there is a chance that you will revert back to a sickly version whatever you were pre-vampire.

It is generally considered tactless to turn more than one humanoid a decade on your own, and in Kalopsia you can be prosecuted for it if it becomes a recurring habit and in vampire society you are partially responsive for any trouble caused by any vampires you create. There has been concern recently, however, over younger vampires seeming less interested in making new vampires than their older counterparts.

Parties are occasionally held to turn vampires in bulk - multiple vampires drink from a collection of new recruits; the blood of these vampires is then collected and mixed together so that it can be given to new recruits - vampires turned in this way are less likely to revert to their non-vampires past as this will only happen if everyone they drink from dies, but they do sense the hurt of their creators more acutely. This process is usually taken when the vampire population is getting low, and their is a lower chance of surviving for the recruits as only about one in ten make it through.

While vampires cannot be "born" some vampires have been rumored to procreate with particularly powerful witches or other strong magical creatures. These babies take after their other parent, but are said to always survive the ritual for becoming a vampire and may harbor some vampire traits such as an aversion to sunlight, a particular beauty or a predilection toward undercooked food.

Most new vampires don't lose previous powers their had, so while a vampire / werewolf etc. is possible they tend to be outcasts among the vampire population. Combined with all the rumors floating around about vampires these permutations make it impossible for most non-vampires to be truly clear on what to expect from a vampire.

As long as a vampire has been regularly eating then most bodily function are still intact, though when resting their blood flows in what to non-vampires what would be considered a worrisome slowness, and in this state they are very cold to the touch.

When regularly eating a vampires hair etc. grows back quickly when trimmed but does not grow past the length it was at when the vampire was turned. Healing words similarly, but requires a more intense feeding.

Without food vampires don't die, but starvation causes a lot of pain and in turn shuts down their facilities until they enter a comatose state. Some vampires purposely hibernate, though the careful administration of potions before going into this state makes it a heck of a lot more pleasant. Generally when this happens you have a depressed vampire on your hands, and there are always rumors about how many ancient ones might be slumbering like this and where.

Unless killed vampires will go on living forever. A stake to the heart doesn't kill but does temporarily knock a vampire unconscious; to kill a vampire its head must be separated from its heart permanently. The most common way of accomplishing this is a beheading, followed by throwing what remains into two separate fires but - and this might be obvious to you - this is murder just as much as it would be if you did it to anyone else in town so, you know, it's generally frowned upon.

Vampires do need to be invited before they can come indoors to any space that has even a single non-vampire occupant, and must be invited by a non-vampire, but most of them maintain that it's due to politeness. They cannot, however, pass a salt circle or enclosed line, attempting to do so hurts, and inviting them across one is seen as extremely rude.

Don't believe the stereotypes - holy water, Bibles or tiny versions of the Crucifixion aren't going to do anything; Christian vampires exist and have for a long time.
